About the event

This course is an instructor-led class intended to be presented at the local level. The course lessons provide introduction to the function, maintenance and use of internal combustion engine powered chainsaws and their tactical woodland fire application. Field exercises support entry level training for firefighters with little or no previous experience in operating a chainsaw, providing hands-on cutting experience in surroundings similar to fire line situations. We will be out in the tress for about 7-9 hours on days 2 and 3.

What to Bring:

  • Lunch and Water: Pack enough to keep you fueled and hydrated all day
  • PPE (Personal Protective Equipment): Helmet, Gloves, Eye Protection, Ear Protection, Boots, Cutting Chaps, Long-sleeve Shirts.
  • Equipment: Chainsaws (with sharp chains), Wedges, Axes, Felling Wedges, Fuel and Oil

Some saws, axes and wedges will be onsite, but it will be your responsibility to bring the required PPE and Equipment.

Prerequisites: Completed SFT Firefighter 1 training. Satisfactory completion of precourse work.

Instructor: Matthew Kearney
