Fire Captain Promotional Prep Course

Course Description:

The Fire Captain Promotional Prep Course is designed for firefighters and engineers preparing to compete for promotion to the rank of Fire Captain and, more importantly, to successfully perform in the position. This comprehensive course focuses on the knowledge, leadership abilities, communication skills, and decision-making expected of today's company officer. Participants will strengthen their skills in fire ground command, strategy and tactics, leadership, personnel management, employee relations, counseling and conflict resolution, oral interviews, emergency simulations, in-basket exercises, and assessment center performance. Through realistic fire department scenarios, practical exercises, facilitated discussions, and promotional testing practice, students will learn how to analyze problems, organize their responses, communicate with confidence, and demonstrate sound judgment under pressure. Emphasis is placed on understanding what assessors are looking for while developing the leadership behaviors necessary to effectively supervise, train, mentor, and manage a fire company.
