Course Description:
The Fire Captain Promotional Prep: Emergency Incident Simulations and Tactical Decision-Making course is a hands-on training program designed to prepare promotional candidates for the emergency simulation and tactical components commonly encountered during Fire Captain assessment centers. Students will participate in realistic, time-pressured emergency scenarios requiring them to perform an effective size-up, establish command, identify incident priorities, select an appropriate strategy, communicate tactical objectives, deploy resources, manage firefighter accountability, recognize and mitigate hazards, and adjust the Incident Action Plan as conditions change. Scenarios may include residential, apartment, commercial, wildland, hazardous materials, rescue, and other complex incidents that challenge students to demonstrate command presence and sound decision-making. Emphasis is placed on developing a systematic approach to tactical problems, clearly communicating decisions, anticipating incident needs, managing escalating events, and explaining the reasoning behind strategic and tactical choices. Emergency Incident Simulation
This command level awareness course provides the student with the incident management terminology and methodology that is employed during a fire fighter emergency. Classroom simulations based upon case studies allow students to participate in simulated incident command positions during a fire fighter emergency.
